"Known as Alvin Tan to most, Nick
Vera Perez (NVP) was
coined to create a character suited to entertainment. NVP began
singing at the age of three where he performed at a local restaurant called Ngo
Hiong House and Native Foods, in Jolo, Sulu, Philippines. Born fourth out of
five siblings, NVP was
raised by Pastor Philip Tan, Sr., a father who serviced Christianity as a
Pastor despite his Moslem and Chinese blood combination, and by Visitacion Tan,
a loving mother whose ancestry stems back from Madrid, Spain and Amoy, China
combined. NVP has three other brothers namely, Norman Tan, BSN, with two lovely
kids, Nyles and Jacob; Nelson Tan, MD, married to Marie Fe Corpuz Tan, with
four kids, Shannen Kirstie, Kenneth Philson, Sean Kyle, and Kamylle Paula; and
the new US immigrant Engineer Philip Tan, Jr., married to Michele Marie Burgos
Tan, with two kids; Nadine Ysabelle and Alyssa Gillian. An excelling student,
he maintained a FULL scholarship in elementary school, he graduated
salutatorian and valedictorian respectively from Notre Dame High School for
Boys. NVP represented Notre Dame for Math Olympiad 1989, where he competed for
Geometry all over the Philippines. He finished bachelor’s degree in Nursing at
the University of Santo Tomas in 1994.
Nick
Vera Perez started competing SOLO singing from Elementary until College where he
always landed first place. NVP won the UST songfest in Nursing and awarded
Center for POP Music scholarship where he pursued and finished the program in
Performing Arts and Stage Presentation with flying colors. He competed in the
Search for Manila representative for the Pan-Philippines; he took the Gold belt
and fought for the title Pan-Philippines Championship in Solo-Singing in 1991.
Rendering the famous gospel song “UPON this Rock” by Sandi Patty in a male NVP
typical version, he took home the first place for Manila, Philippines and won
all other categories as FIRST PLACE in all singing competitions including, DUET
(with Michelle Tarrazona for the song “More Than Wonderful” by Sandi Patty and
Larnelle Harris), TRIO (with Michele Tarrazona and Denise Tarrazona for the
song “In His Love” by Sandi Patty), All-Male Quartet (with Alex A, Mars
Majarucon and Jeffrey Castillo for the song “This is The Day”). The competition
was a meet throughout Philippines and was held in Zamboanga City. In 1993, NVP
won the UST Nursing Solo Competition First Place, where he performed Jun
Polistico’s undying “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas,” a ballad rendition which awed
even former Senator Ernie Maceda from the audience that gave him a standing
ovation. Hosting events, Mastering of Ceremonies, Leading a seminar, Public
Speaking, Declaiming, Orating, Ballroom, Hip-Hop and RNB dancing are some of
his sharpest talents. NVP enjoys the stage like no other as he wows the crowds.
A Ballroom Dancing
graduate from Makati Ballroom Dance School, NVP is one of the mostsought- after
ballroom dance instructors in Manila from 1994–2002. He shows fluidity, calm
and realistic showmanship in dancing and details in his instructional dancing.
NVP is currently hosting a TV show, the final segment of Chicago Philippine
Reports TV (CPRTV) known as “Let’s Dance with Nick!” where he showcases the
instructional moves and demonstrations, a step-bystep teaching on
“HOW-To-Do-It” yourself style, with different guest stars for different
sessions. Growing up in Quezon City, Philippines, NVP concentrated on show
business and performances. He was one of the TOP ballroom dance instructors
from 1995–2002 and has guested in TV shows, mall tours and club performances. A
Jack of all trades, BUT MASTER of everything, he surely is. An event wise man
once said, “Everything is all about the host. When Nick comes to the stage, the
world stops and dances with him.” NVP loves to see people smile and loves the
camera. When everyone else fears the stage and the microphone, NVP is a real
natural in entertainment and show business. NVP continues to excel in his
career in Nursing, at one point he was a Director of Nursing for Professional
Home Health Care, a Nurse Manager for the Medical / Surgical / Cardio –
Thoracic ( O p e n – Heart)/Neurological Intensive Care Units in Lincoln Park
Hospital. A progressive seasoned RN for almost 21 years now, NVP concentrates
his nursing in Intensive Care, Post–Anesthesia Care , Eye–Surgery Care ,
Oncology/Hematology, and Critical Care Divisions. NVP is a certifed RN in
Critical Care ( I C U s ) , Oncology 7 / Hematology and has gained Best
Preceptorship recognition from management at Lincoln Park Hospital"
