Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards reprise the endearing characters of international workers Joy and Ethan, respectively, in the most awaited movie of the year, “Hello, Love, Again,” the sequel to the phenomenal box office hit “Hello, Love, Goodbye” that will be shown in cinemas in the Philippines beginning November 13. 

 

ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema and GMA Pictures’ groundbreaking film collaboration picks up from Joy and Ethan’s respective complexities in their new lives five years after Joy moved to Canada from Hong Kong to pursue her dreams.

 

As their paths cross again unexpectedly in Canada, will the two get to rekindle their romance and finally get their chance to be together? Or amid their sacrifices and loneliness in a foreign land to provide for their families, will the two OFWs remain ill-fated in love?

 

“Hello, Love, Again” is directed by the well-loved rom-com director Cathy Garcia-Sampana, who was also behind “Hello, Love, Goodbye.”

 

Among the cast members are Joross Gamboa, Valerie Concepcion, Jennica Garcia, Kevin Kreider, Jobert Austria, Mark Labella, Marvin Aritrangco, Ruby Rodriguez, at many more.

 

Apart from the Philippines, the film is set to show across US and Canada beginning Nov. 15 and is slated to have the widest North American release to date for a Filipino film.

 

It will also be showing in Australia (Nov. 14), New Zealand (Nov. 14), Guam (Nov. 15), Saipan (Nov. 15), Singapore (Nov. 28), Malaysia (Nov. 28), the Middle East (Nov. 28), Cambodia (Nov. 29), and Hong Kong (Nov).

 

The film will likewise have a midnight screening in 72 cinemas across the Philippines on Nov. 13.

 

Kathryn and Alden continue their “Hello Again Tour” at SM City Iloilo on October 19, SM City Caloocan on Oct. 20, KCC Mall of Gen San and KCC Mall of Koronadal on Oct. 27, SM City JMall (Mandaue), SM City Cebu, and SM Seaside City Cebu on Nov. 9, and Market! Market! in Taguig on Nov. 10. The film’s premiere night will be held at SM Megamall on Nov. 12.

With more and more people flocking to the cinemas, GMA Pictures and GMA Entertainment Group’s theatrical release of “Balota” starring Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera is a certified top grosser.

As it begins its second week, “Balota” continues to reign in moviegoers. Even on a Monday—considered a slow day for movies—many screenings of the film were sold out last October 21.

The producers and the Balota cast are happy because their goal was to reach more people with the message of the movie.  The satirical film’s foray into the mainstream movie scene has broadened its audience right in time for the upcoming 2025 Midterm Elections.

Aside from being the starrer of Balota, Cinemalaya 2024 Best Actress Marian Rivera also led in sharing the advocacy of the film. “Ito talagang Balota, isang adbokasiya talaga siya kaya pinu-push talaga namin na mas maraming makapanood kasi wakeup call ito sa mga tao, higit lalo sa mga kabataan,” Marian added.

A special rate is also given to students and teachers in select cinemas. “Dahil love na love ni teacher Emmy may special rate kami sa mga teachers and student para mas magaan sa bulsa nila ang panonood nila ng Balota,” shared Marian.

In her Facebook post, the Balota actress further explained the story behind the special rate: “Bakit nga may special price ang ilang sinehan para sa estudyante at guro? Day 1 pa lang nandyan na ‘yan. Una po sa lahat, ano ba ang dahilan kung bakit namin ito ginawa? Hindi pare-pareho ang purpose ng mga pelikula. May pelikula na ang habol ay kumita ng hundreds of millions. Mayroong personal na pelikula. May pelikula na experimental. May pelikula na naglalayong makatulong sa lipunan. Ang Balota ay ginawa namin para makatulong sa lipunan. At naniniwala kami (na nasa movie rin) sa kakayahan ng mga guro at estudyante para humubog ng mas magandang bukas para sa Pilipinas. Kita rin sa reactions ng mga teacher na nakapanood na na-inspire sila at nakita nila ang sarili nila kay Teacher Emmy. Kaya nga halos triple ang nanood noong Sabado, nadadagdagan ang screening time at dumadami ang nanonood araw-araw.

Ang pelikula ay mahalagang bahagi ng ating kultura at sining. Palawakin sana natin ang ating isip tungkol sa pag-appreciate nito,” she said.

To express her gratitude further, Rivera made a surprise visit to some cinemas last weekend.

Balota is written and directed by Kip Oebanda. The cast also includes Gardo Versoza, Will Ashley, Raheel Bhyria, Royce Cabrera, Sassa Gurl, Esnyr, Nico Antonio, Donna Cariaga, Joel Saracho, Sue Prado, Mae Paner.

The film also premiered at the 44th Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) during the second week of October.

In the Pandesal Forum before distributing free Pandesal, Imee Marcos and Ping Lacson urged government to emulate the world-famous success of South Korean movies, TV shows and pop music, by the Philippine government truly giving strong support to cgrative industries and lowering the now too high taxes on Philippine movies. They both said that Philippine movies, TV shows and music should be exported globally not allow to suffer. Flores even proposed the Philippines copy from South Korea and China which limit the number and schedules of foreign film imports, so that they could support and nurture their South Korean and Chinese film industries. 

Imee Marcos also happily reminisced about young Vilma Santos acting her role in a 1960s Marcos family movie and the latest actress to play her was Christine Reyes. Ping Lacson also mentioned that Filipino actors who played his role in movies included now Senator Robin Padilla and the late Rudy Fernandez. Both Imee and Ping said they admire Filipino movies and enjoy relaxations by watching films. 

Kamuning Bakery Cafe on Oct. 11 also donated a public schoolbuilding to Sinait Integrated School in Tarlac province as part of this annual civic & cultural project to honor the uniquely Filipino bread Pandesal and to highlight need to solve problem of global hunger. GMA Pictures and GMA Entertainment Group’s “Balota” will have its much-awaited nationwide theatrical release with new cuts starting October 16.

 

One of Cinemalaya Bente’s Box Office Hits, “Balota” is a timely film that shines a light on the dedication of teachers to future generations and their role in safeguarding the public's votes during elections. Starring Cinemalaya Best Actress, Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, the film is written and directed by Kip Oebanda.

 

The satirical movie, which blends suspense, thriller, and comedy, narrates the story of a land-grabbing tycoon and a former male sexy actor, who are locked in a tight race for the mayoral seat of a small town. 

 

When violence erupts amid the election, Emmy (Rivera), a teacher, is found running into the wilderness with a ballot box. It is the last copy of the election results, which is the key to the election’s integrity. Together with the rest of the community, Emmy tries to outsmart and outmaneuver the goons who want the elections to fail.

 

The award-winning Kapuso actress showcased another facet of her acting prowess as she embraced her “deglamorized” character in her first-ever independent film. Rivera said that “Balota” gave her another sense of fulfillment as an actor.

 

"Hindi ko mapaliwanag 'yung pakiramdam ko after kong matapos 'yung ‘Balota,’ parang palagi kong sinasabi lalo na sa asawa ko na, alam mo 'yung ang tagal ko sa showbiz pero parang bumalik ulit 'yung fulfillment ko sa sarili ko sa paggawa ng trabaho,” she said.

 

The film also gave Rivera her first-ever Balanghay trophy from Cinemalaya – an unexpected feat she wholeheartedly dedicated to all the teachers like Teacher Emmy. 

 

"Posible pa pala. Pero higit sa award, ang regalong natanggap ko ay ang muling pagliyab ng aking pagmamahal sa paggawa ng pelikula, dahil sa inspirasyong ibinigay sa akin ng Cinemalaya community," Rivera pens in her Instagram account after receiving her first acting award.

 

Joining Rivera in the film is an ensemble cast that further brings color to Emmy’s story.

 

Veteran actor Gardo Versoza plays Edralin, a former sexy star running for mayor who challenges the land-owning and hegemonic dynasty.

 

Sparkle’s new generation of actors – Will Ashley, Raheel Bhyria, and Royce Cabrera – add color to the film through their characters Enzo, Jimbo, and  SPO1 Morales, respectively. 

 

Sharing the silver screen with the Kapuso actress are TikTok content creators Sassa Gurl and Esnyr who play the roles of Babe (Sassa) and Ehrmengard (Esnyr). The two are both vocal and compassionate queens of the town.  As best friends, they are endlessly hilarious with their witty banter and sharp observations couched in gay lingo and jokes.

 

Completing the stellar cast are Nico Antonio, Donna Cariaga, Joel Saracho, Sue Prado, and Mae Paner.

 

Rivera was one of the recipients of the "Box-Office Heroes" award at the 7th Eddys (The Entertainment Editors' Choice) Awards. She was also recognized as one of the "Box Office Phenomenal Stars of Philippine Cinema" opposite Dingdong Dantes by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc.  She was named “Takilya Queen” at the 40th PMPC Star Awards for Movies and took home the “Bida ng Takilya Award” at the 2024 FAMAS Awards. She won “Best Film Actress” at the 2024 Platinum Stallion National Media Awards and “Movie Actress of the Year” at the 5th Village Pipol Awards. 

 

Oebanda, on the other hand, is behind the highly-acclaimed film “Liway,” which, after winning the Special Jury Commendation at the 2018 Cinemalaya Film Festival, earned various awards at the 2022 Filipino Arts & Cinema International (FACINE) Film Festival in San Francisco, United States, including gold recognitions for the film, direction, and story. He also co-produced and directed another notable film, “Bar Boys.”

 

Produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Entertainment Group, in cooperation with Cinemalaya, Balota also became an official selection for exhibition at the 44th Annual Hawai'i International Film Festival in Hawaii last October 6  and other international screening dates on October 12 at the Consolidated Theaters Kahala and October 21 at the Lanai Theater at Hale Keaka.

CELEBRATING his 10th anniversary in the industry, young OPM hitmaker Juan Karlos  Labajo is scheduled to headline his first major concert titled “juan karlos LIVE” on November 29 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

 

“This is a dream come true. This proves that there is room for everyone in the music industry. I've always wanted it, and it's finally happening thanks to Nathan Studios, who believes in my worth and artistry,” says JK.

 

He adds, “The concert's production team is working hard to polish all the elements needed in order to provide the greatest possible concert experience for everyone. Of course, they'll hear and see me perform my hits as well as a few songs that have influenced me as an artist.”

 

JK, best known for his hit songs “Demonyo” (2017), “Buwan,” (2018), and “Ere,” (2023), rose to fame at the age of 13 on his stint on the debut season of “The Voice PH Kids” in 2014. 

 

With the release of “Ere,” which garnered over 1.22 million streams in 24 hours and made history on Spotify’s Global Chart, Google listed it as one of the most searched songs of 2023. He continues to dominate the music industry, with 2.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a voice that pierces the souls.
